MELANIE HENIQUE ROCKETS TO 9TH IN WORLD IN 50 FLY AT WORLD MILITARY GAMES

TENERO, Switzerland, June 15. THE World Military Games came to a close with a strong night of sprinting, including a top-10 time from France's Melanie Henique in the women's 50-meter fly.

France's Melanie Henique cracked the top 10 in the SwimVortex world rankings in the women's 50-meter fly with a meet-record effort. Henique sprinted her way to a 26.18 for the win, moving her to ninth in the world as she bettered her 11th-ranked season best of 26.24 from French Nationals. The time also blasted Henique's preliminary meet record of 26.50. China's Liu Lan took second in 26.87, while Poland's Anna Dowgiert earned third in 27.01.
Brazil's Nicholas Dos Santos raced his way to victory in the men's 50-meter fly with a 23.59. That performance fell just a bit short of his seventh-ranked season best of 23.23 from the Maria Lenk Trophy meet, but was more than enough to win the crown tonight. Russia's Nikolay Skvortsov finished second in 24.19, while Ukraine's Oleksii Ivanov tracked down third in 24.39.

France's Charlotte Bonnet captured her third title of the meet with a close finish in the women's 100-meter free. Bonnet hit the wall in 55.65, just ahead of Brazil's Larissa Oliveira (55.70) and Graciele Hermann (55.74) in what proved to be one of the most exciting swims of the meet here in Tenero. Bonnet already had won the 200 free and 200 IM earlier this week.
China's Fu Haifeng snared the men's 400-meter freestyle crown in 3:53.00 with Germany's Yannick Lebherz taking second in 3:53.70. China's Zu Lijun rounded out the top three in 3:54.80. China's Yao Jianan followed with a 1:01.79 to win the women's 100-meter backstroke finale. Germany's Lisa Graf touched second in 1:02.13 with Russia's Alexandra Papusha placing third in 1:02.42.
Germany's Christian Diener collected the men's 100-meter backstroke title in 55.45 with Kazakhstan's Alexandr Tarabrin placing second in 56.07. China's Diao Jigong earned third-place honors in 56.51. Russia's Vera Kalashnikova picked up the women's 200-meter breaststroke title in 2:32.03 with Slovenia's Tanja Smid taking second in 2:32.77. Ukraine's Olga Tovstogan wound up third in 2:32.97.
China's Zhang Yuhan won the women's 800-meter free title in 8:33.20 with just four swimmers in the finale. Germany's Fransizka Hentke (8:47.49) and Svenja Zihsler (9:00.03) took second and third, while Slovenia's Tanja Smid finished fourth in 9:28.05.
